
A: The problem with having a maximum scale when it comes to salaries, contracts and extensions, is that everyone just goes ahead and says, “I’ll take the max.” And, to me, that’s a real problem in the NBA, that there simply aren’t as many maximum-caliber players as there as maximum-scale contracts doled out. I think it will be an interesting exercise with Jimmy Butler, considering how he emphasized his desire to be in Miami. Now the question is whether Butler’s bond with the Heat is one that will have him as an active partner in maximizing the Heat’s roster possibilities when it comes to payroll. Then again . . . nah, he’ll probably just ask for the maximum. And because of the way the game is played, and because Bam got his maximum, Jimmy will probably get his, as well.
